Teaching Philosophy
My teaching is a blend of traditional and Bel Canto methodology. More importantly, it's based on years of collaboration with voice scientists and physicians — years that gave me a keen knowledge of the structures of singing (anatomy) and how these structures function (physiology). Understanding this inherent "logic" of the body and how specific mechanisms work to create the voice, we can isolate and strengthen individual vocal skills, and integrate them into a holistic framework for singing. The voice student and teacher are partners in this collaborative learning process.
When students understand how the systems of the voice work, they stand "in the shoes of the teacher": they learn how to make subtle quality adjustments and gain greater control of their voices. This is empowering for students and motivates them to take greater charge of their learning experience as they master new skills and techniques. Singers experience better performance outcomes, develop self-efficacy, and are more resilient in the face of new challenges.
Vocal Styles: My background has centered around Classical (Opera, Bel Canto technique) and Musical Theatre (including authentic Belt) singing styles. However, the techniques I use are beneficial to singers in any vocal style.
We’re a great match if:

You’re an adult voice student looking to improve your skills or get back into singing after some time away.
You’re a professional singer who wants to build upon existing skills and/or prepare for auditions and performances.
You’re a singer who has limited ability to travel to a major musical institution for quality training.
