Conservatory Voice Training & Singing Voice Rehabilitation
Mark Lee is a Boston-based voice teacher helping singers build and fine-tune their voices.
Meet Mark
For over 30 years, it’s been my pleasure to train singers at the New England Conservatory of Music. During this time, I’ve worked with singers of all musical styles, from the Boston area and across the globe.
I maintain a diverse studio of voice students ranging from youth and teens, collegiate and pre-professionals, to adult singers and professionals. Students join my studio for many reasons:
To build a strong, dependable vocal foundation
To seek solutions to long-standing vocal challenges and problems
To prepare for collegiate musical program auditions and other performances
In my years of studio work, I've found great wisdom in operatic and Bel Canto traditions. Equally important is a keen understanding of the physical structures and "logic" of the body, given to us by science.
My work has steadily focused on collaboration with voice researchers and Boston medical professionals, integrating discoveries from emerging voice science with traditional vocal techniques, and allowing the contrast of these fields to sharpen my focus on the most efficient and healthy methods of training singers. I apply this knowledge across the entire spectrum of vocal performance styles.
Students I’ve worked with have been accepted to schools including Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, Hartt School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and New England Conservatory, as well as the University of Michigan Summer Musical Theatre Workshop.
Mission
My mission is to help singers better understand and use their voices for greater personal and professional fulfillment, and to achieve more successful outcomes in their work.
By teaching my students about how their body works to produce excellent singing, I help them establish a robust and dependable vocal technique, gain admission to advanced singing programs of study, and become more competitive and successful in a very demanding industry.
During our time together, I help singers:
Improve voice quality and tone
Remove unhealthy constrictions
Increase mastery and consistency of technique
Better understand the physiology and function of the singing voice
Achieve their training goals more quickly than in traditional work alone
Succeed in their performance projects and professional goals
Explore diverse singing repertoire
Increase their enjoyment of singing
